2014 Syrah
Alder Springs Vineyard

Tasting Notes

Our 2014 Syrah is dark garnet in color with a medium weight and superb structure. Enjoy the complex aromas of blueberries and herbaceous notes of green olives. There is a pepperiness on the palate and luscious flavors ranging from smoky tea leaves to a lingering finish of tar and licorice. Smooth tannins anchor a satisfying finish. A classic cool-climate Syrah.

Winemaker Notes

SoMa Cellars’ 2014 Syrah was harvested on September 24, 2014 and fermented with 80 percent whole berries to capture the freshness and structure imparted from the skins and 15 percent whole cluster to add more complexity and length. It was fermented with two percent Viognier, a traditional technique used to further enhance the Syrah aromatics. The wine was aged in one-third new French Oak barrels for 17 months and bottled, unfined and unfiltered, on May 17, 2016.

Food Pairing

The SoMa Cellars Syrah is a classic expression of this native Rhone varietal and with its earthy, rich flavors pairs well with lamb, charcuterie, tapas, wild game and full flavored pork or poultry dishes.
