SoMa Cellars Cuvée Rive Gauche Bordeaux is produced under our direction by one of Bordeaux’s premier wine-producing estates in the Médoc district of Bordeaux.  The Medoc is located on the prestigious Left Bank of the Gironde estuary, home to the famous appellations of Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Margaux.

Cuvée Rive Gauche is a classic Left Bank Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend typically found in the Médoc.  Great wines can only come from exceptional vineyards and we have sourced our grapes from seven of Bordeaux's best:  Cabernet Sauvignon from Grande Catélie Vineyard in Pauillac and Demi-Lune in Saint-Estèphe, Merlot from Chateau L'Eglise in Pomerol and Chateaus La Pierre and La Pyramide in Saint-Émilion and Cabernet Franc from La Barrail and La Carriere also from Saint-Émilion.

Tasting Notes

The wine has scents of dried rose petal and spicy juniper on the nose accompanied by deep aromas of cedar and leather. On the palate it has a characteristic broad mouthfeel and beautiful density with hints of white pepper yielding to flavors of blueberry, black cherry and caramel. Firm tannins anchor a satisfying finish. Approachable now, it will continue to improve for another eight to ten years.

Winemaker Notes

Our 2017 Cuvée Rive Gauche was harvested in October 2017. The hand-picked grapes were gently crushed and fermented using the traditional “delestage” method in which the fermenting juice is drained from and then returned to the skins daily. This technique extracts enhanced color and flavor compounds and results in softer tannins to create a rich wine that is more approachable when young and exhibits a fruitier nose with a rounder, less astringent mouthfeel.  The wine was aged for 19 months in 60% new French Oak barrels and bottled in June 2019.

Food Pairing

The SoMa Cellars Bordeaux pairs well with steak, prime rib, veal chops, and any hearty roast meats or stews.  Try it with your favorite pheasant, duck or other wild game recipe.  It will compliment rich vegetable dishes such as eggplant parmesan, ratatouille or veggies on the grill.  Finish your meal with a cheese plate and the Cuvée Rive Gauche in lieu of dessert, you will not be disappointed.
