2017 Viognier
Russian River Valley
Catie's Corner Vineyard

Tasting Notes

Our 2017 Viognier is fresh and exuberant. It has a lovely straw color. The nose exudes exotic floral notes and intense perfumed aromas of violets, apple blossoms and peaches. The palate is marked by a generous mouthfeel and a cascade of flavors from apricot to honeysuckle with a hint of nutmeg and balanced by brisk acidity. It is crisp, clean and a wonderful accompaniment to food.

Winemaker Notes

The grapes were picked on September 4, 2017 and pressed in whole clusters followed by a long cool primary fermentation in stainless steel to bring out the varietal's fine, delicate flavors. To maintain the wine's fresh crisp character it did not undergo secondary malolactic fermentation. It was aged in stainless steel barrels for approximately 7 months before bottling on March 16, 2018. A small amount of Viognier fermented in neutral oak barrels was added to the final blend for added complexity and mouthfeel.

Food Pairing

SoMa Cellars produces perhaps the finest Viognier in California and with its rich aromas and excellent fruit/acid balance is a fine accompaniment for seafood, mildly prepared pork or poultry, vegetable dishes, fruit and mild cheeses. It is an excellent alternative to chardonnay and great as a “palate cleanser” following a red wine tasting!
